Custom Stencil STL Generator
Turn a logo, drawing, or pattern into a 3D printable stencil for craft paint, clay decoration, or a cookie decorating project. Choose one motif or a repeat sheet, set the finished dimensions, and keep enclosed centers attached with support tabs. Design and preview free on Starter; export the STL with Spark or Pro.
Start with one original design and one recorded print test. Note sheet dimensions, motif size, support placement, material, and intended surface. Spark exports the stencil STL; Pro supports larger batch workflows. A repeat grid is artwork within one sheet, separate from the number of designs in a batch job.
What you can make
- One design or a repeat grid with straight or half-drop rows
- Exact sheet or motif sizing, with adjustable support tabs
- Free Starter preview; Stencil STL export on Spark and Pro
Make a stencil from artwork in four steps.
- Upload clean, high-contrast artwork and choose Stencil in the Studio. Logos, lettering and simple drawings give the crispest openings.
- Choose One design or Repeat grid. Keep the sheet size or the artwork size exact, then set the gaps and Straight or Half-drop rows.
- Smart supports keep the middle of letters like O and A attached. Set the sheet thickness, and add a lift tab or hanging hole if you want one.
- Check every opening in 3D, export the STL with Spark or Pro, and print one test on scrap before a full project.
Size the sheet, openings, and supports together.
- Sheet size includes the edge margin. Motif size preserves each design's longest side and lets the sheet grow around the arrangement.
- More motifs on a fixed sheet means smaller artwork. Inspect fine openings after changing the repeat count, rather than judging the original image alone.
- Smart supports connect enclosed centers. Remove centers intentionally fills those areas in the finished decoration; it does not preserve the original letter shapes.
- Start by testing the default 1.2 mm sheet and 1.6 mm support width. These are Studio defaults, not universal printer settings or a flexibility guarantee.
- A clean 3D preview is only the first check. Confirm connected toolpaths, bed fit, a flat printed sheet, and clean paint or icing edges on scrap material.
Custom stencil sheets for decorators, artists, and makers.
- For logo and lettering projects: Create a bounded stencil from your own artwork. Support enclosed letter centers so the intended negative space stays attached.
- For clay surface decoration: Place a stencil over a flat clay test tile to apply compatible color through openings. Use a texture stamp when you want pressed relief.
- For cookie decorators: Plan a cookie stencil for airbrushing or icing. Evaluate the printed material, equipment, cleaning process, and food-contact documentation before use.
- For craft painting: Make repeatable shapes for cards, flat signs, and craft panels. Test paint loading and edge contact on the same surface finish first.
- For classrooms and makerspaces: Compare positive and negative space, bridge placement, and motif scale with a small stencil that students can inspect in 3D.
- For stencil and STL sellers: Develop original patterns, record actual sheet dimensions, and verify every file and physical application before preparing shop listings.
Three stencil projects to start with.
- A logo with enclosed centers: Use one design, a fitted outline, and two supports per center. Check that the logo still reads clearly after the tabs interrupt its openings.
- A geometric repeat sheet: Use an exact rectangular sheet with spaced motifs. Try half-drop rows for a staggered rhythm, then inspect every edge motif.
- A round decorating stencil: Set equal width and height for a circle, or different dimensions for an oval. Leave handling room around the decoration area.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a stencil STL generator?
- It turns artwork into a thin 3D sheet with openings for applying a design. BakePress lets you set dimensions, arrange repeats, support enclosed centers, and export an STL for a 3D printer or print service.
- Can I make a stencil from an image without CAD?
- Yes. Start with clear, high-contrast artwork in BakePress, select Stencil, and inspect the traced openings. Simplify shading, tiny marks, and crowded lettering before printing.
- Is the stencil maker free?
- Stencil creation and 3D preview are available on the free Starter plan. Downloading a Stencil STL requires Spark or Pro. The model is currently in Beta.
- How do I keep the centers of letters attached?
- Use support tabs, also called stencil bridges. BakePress offers Smart, side, top/bottom, and reinforced strategies. Review their placement in the preview and check that they survive slicing.
- Can I make a repeating stencil pattern?
- Yes. Repeat grid supports straight or half-drop rows, separate horizontal and vertical gaps, and up to 64 motifs per sheet within the layout limits. On an exact-size sheet, the motifs scale to fit the available area.
- Can I make cookie stencils or cake decorating stencils?
- You can design a stencil for that project. A downloadable STL does not establish food-contact suitability: check the actual filament, printer, finishing, cleaning, and intended contact conditions before using a printed tool with food.
- Does BakePress export SVG or laser-cut stencil files?
- This workflow creates a 3D printable stencil STL. It is designed for slicing and 3D printing; a 2D cutting-file workflow is a different process.
